Roland Coryn
Roland Coryn (°21/12/1938) beëindigde volledige theoretische-, instrumentale-en compositiestudies aan het Koninklijk Muziekconservatorium te Gent.
Als altviolist was hij werkzaam in diverse kamermuziekensembles terwijl hij als pianist en violist lesgaf aan de academies te Harelbeke en Izegem. In 1977 werd hij benoemd tot directeur van het Muziekconservatorium te Oostende, waarna hij dezelfde taak voortzette aan de Muziekacademie te Harelbeke.
Ondertussen was hij eveneens werkzaam aan het Gentse Conservatorium waar hij achtereenvolgens leraar was van kamermuziek, Harmonie, Contrapunt en Fuga, om zijn carrière te beëindeigen als leraar Compositie.
Als componist bekwam hij meerder onderscheidingen. Als belangrijkste composities kunnen worden vermeld:
- Sonate voor orkest
- Concerto voor viool en orkest
- Sonate voor altviool en piano
- Sonate voor 2 piano’s
- Sonatine voor 2 Bb klarinetten
- Concerto voor slagwerk en orkest
Sedert enkele jaren is hij aangenomen als lid van de Koninklijke Academie voor Wetenschappen, Letteren en Schone Kunsten van België.
In september 1996 ging hij in beide ambten met pensioen teneinde zich volledig te kunnen weiden aan de compositie.
Roland Coryn (°21/12/1938) completed his theoretical, instrumental and compositional studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Gent.
He played the viola in several chamber music ensembles, and he teached the violin and the piano at the academy of music in Harelbeke and Izegem. In 1977 he became director of the Ostend Music conservatory, some years later he fulfilled the same job in Harelbeke. Meanwhile he became teacher at the Gent Conservatory of Music where he teached succesively chamber music, harmony, conterpoint and fugue, and he ended his career as teacher of composition.
As a composer he received several distinctions.

- Concerto for violin and orchestra
- Sonate for viola and piano
- Sonate for 2 pianos
- Sonatine for 2 Bb clarinets
- Concerto for percussion and orchestra
For several years he has been a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences, literature and fine arts.
He retired in september 1996 to devote his time completely to composition.
